Polymyalgia Rheumatica
Dealing with Polymyalgia Rheumatica
Medication is the usual approach here and your GP is usually well placed to guide you around this. Steroids are strong anti-inflammatories and work very well. They come with side effects that you would be monitored for and your dose reduced to the minimum needed to keep on top of the issue. This would be reduced gradually as you recover. Rheumatologists may also be involved in some cases.
You are encouraged to remain as active as your symptoms enable you to be so be guided by how it feels. A useful booklet has been produced to help guide this.
The Versus Arthritis organisation has regularly updated guidance on this topic and suggestions to help manage it. If you need specific guidance though, please contact your GP practice or rheumatology team if you are under them.
